Tips
  Outlining
One of the most useful aspects of OneNote is the ability to take notes in an outline format, with bulleted or numbered points, and to collapse or expand them as desired. read more on OneNote Outlining...

Cross Links
OneNote will not let you create crosslinks between pages and subpages - for example, if you have a subpage named "Jan 28" for notes from class that day, and want to insert a link to something in the notes you took under the "Jan 21" subpage, you can't do it. What you can do is create crosslinks to different tabs. For example, say you have a "Contacts" page where you list contact information for important people, one of whom is on a committee with you. Next to his/her name, you could include a crosslink to the "Committee" tab in another part of your Notebook for quick linking. Use the OneNote Dressup tool, and simply create a link to the ".one" file for that tab.

Password Protection
To password protect a section of your OneNote notebook, right-click on the tab at the top, and choose "Password Protection". A new screen pops up that allows you to add or remove password protection. The pluses are that the password is case sensitive, and stays with that section of your OneNote notebook. Open your notebook on any computer, or search from anywhere in OneNote, and the password is still required for that section. The minuses are that someone could still delete a section of your notebook - while they couldn't see the contents, they could stop you from seeing them too.

Adding a Hyperlink
You can add a hyperlink to the OneNote toolbar. First, right-click the toolbar you want to add to, and choose "Customize". Add a button that has the image you like from the popup box by dragging and dropping it onto the OneNote toolbar. Do not close the popup box yet. Right-click the button you added, and choose "Assign Hyperlink" and "Open". You can then create a button that links to a document, an email address, or a web page. A nice one is http://www.psychpage.com/onenote_dressup/index.html

Accidental Merging
To avoid accientally merging containers, or combining two containers of notes, as you move it around a page, hold the Alt key down as you move it.

Look Up A Word
Right click any word and choose "Look Up" and you'll get an Encarta definition of the word

Research Pane
The Research Pane in OneNote is pretty much the same as in Office 2003. However, one nice thing about it is that it allows you to drag and drop text or pictures from a web site into your notebook, or even to capture an image a of a page to put next to the link in the notebook. Position the portion of the page you want to see in your notebook, switch back to OneNote, choose Insert, Screen Clipping, and clip the portion of the web page you want. One back in OneNote, put the mouse over the lower right corner of the image and you can shrink it down. Learn More... and more...
Tools
Send to OneNote from Outlook 2003
Send to OneNote from Internet Explorer (sends the contents of a webpage to OneNote)
OneNote Image Writer (print any kind of file to OneNote)
WebPage to OneNote (sends an image of a webpage to OneNote)
OneNote Dress Up (more attractive links and backgrounds)

Most of these tools require instaling Microsoft's .Net framework version 1.1 or higher. Using Outlook also requires turning on support in Outlook for .NET add-ins. If it is not turned on, insert the Office Installation CD and look under the Advanced Customization options under Outlook, and enable installation of the .NET support. After instaling this, the OneNote tools should work.
